WOMEN IN HIP-HOP CULTURE UNITE! June 25, 2009June 25th, 2009
The Hip-Hop Association, in collaboration with the Center for Multicultural Education and Programs at New York University, proudly presents the Womanhood Passage Fundraiser Reception, a special evening honoring women pioneers and community leaders. Guests represent Hip-Hop artists, as well as executives, activists, media makers, and entrepreneurs. The event will take place at NYU’s Rosenthal Pavilion, located at the Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, from 7pm-10pm on Thursday, June 25, 2009.
Confirmed speakers and performers include: MONIE LOVE, ROKAFELLA, PEBBLEE POO, BARAKA SELE, TOOFLY, MARCELLA RUNELL HALL, DJ BEVERLY BOND, KIM OSORIO, DJ JAZZY JOYCE, RACHEL RAIMIST, THEMBISA MSHAKA, DR. ROXANNE SHANTE, P~STAR, APRIL SILVER, DJ KUTTIN KANDI, IRIS MORALES, LIN QUE, ETERNIA, NEMISS, RHA GODDESS, J-LOVE, FIONA BLOOM, DR. RAQUEL Z. RIVERA, JOAN MORGAN, ELIZABETH MENDEZ BERRY, DR. The Womanhood Passage is a fundraiser to support the Womanhood Learning Project [WLP] initiatives. The WLP magnifies women’s roles and leadership positions within Hip-Hop culture and the community. Proceeds will go towards the completion of the Fresh, Bold, So Def: Women in Hip-Hop Changing the Game resource book and the Ladies First Fund, the first grant for women in Hip-Hop. Fresh, Bold, So Def profiles 365 artists, activists, and entrepreneurs, while the Ladies First Fund is an initiative that offers a $5,000 grant to a candidate dedicated to social entrepreneurship in the Newark, New Jersey area. The WLP is supported by the likes of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Alternate Route Residency Program, Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development at Rutgers Business School-Newark, Divine Orchid, Soulution Enterprises, New York Liberty, Ms. Magazine, Third World Newsreel, NYWIFT, Noble House Wine, Ford Foundation, Powerhouse Books and the NYU Office of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Student Services.
